To My Character

Happiness Project

Run, run, run,

You’re beside me

And we’re flying

Down the forest trail,

Sunlight streaming

Through the leaves

To flood the world

With the joy I see

Within your emerald eyes.

 

Hair flowing out behind us,

Mine brownish-blonde, yours dark and rich

With the tiny braids behind your ears

You know that I adore.

I’m wearing running clothes,

And you’re dressed

In that color I see everywhere,

The russet shade of orange

That means so much.

 

We’re dancing over the roots and stones,

You with your light-stepped, elven grace,

Me with my awkward human clumsiness

That has me tripping, skidding, laughing

At the dirt all over my limbs.

You’re laughing, too,

A sound that’s free and beautiful,

That makes me match your gentle smile

And gives wings to my soul.

 

Later on we’re walking, talking,

Me telling you all the things I need to say,

And you listening with open ears

And an even bigger heart.

So much joy to be able to speak

Of the things within my mind,

For someone to hear me

And actually care,

To share in my excitement.

 

Underneath the stars tonight,

We’re sitting side by side

Singing out with all our souls

To the One who created us both.

Infinity of love reflected

Within the depths of your eyes;

A million sparks of happiness,

A million sparks of hope.

How I wish that I could stay with you forever.

 

I fall asleep with a smile upon my lips,

Listening to the words of your lullaby,

Giving you the gift you gave to me.

Within your strong and gentle arms

You carry me home,

Lay me tenderly down upon my bed,

Softly kiss my dreams.

Healer, friend,

The angel I’ve been given,

My final conscious thoughts

Are of thanksgiving for your presence,

Your creation,

The happiness of you

With which my broken heart is filled.

Author's Note

I wrote this for a challenge called "Happiness Project" my friend Dhiman (pen name Inject Positivity) invited me to do. I had to write something that expresses my happiness at the current moment, so... I wrote a poem about a character from a story I'm working on. Since it's about a character practically nobody else knows, this might be one of those things that's harder to draw meaning from - but oh well. Hope you liked it anyway. :)

Uncensored. And honest.

That's what I get here.
It is simple and amazing at the same time.
I couldn't help but smile while reading this. And is that not the purpose of any literary piece? Endow your reader with the emotions concieved in you while writing.

Reminded me of that feeling I always got when my parents handed me an ice cream cone as a child. (I'm a simple man with simple desires.)

It is likable and enjoyable. Hmm, it is based on a character, and I can tell that the character is a lovely one- your poem speaks for the concerned character. Vivid imagery compounded with profound emotions and lovely acts of affection. Quite a beautifully penned poem. Keep writing.

The most beautiful part of this poem is the way you have expressed happiness here....there is no flowery or artificial presentation, it feels true and me as a reader enjoyed this... There is a innocent nature of childhood that reflects throughout the poem... The last stanza just overwhelmed me.... This was beautiful, you are happy inside it seems.... Well done my frnd....
