What If?

What If?

A Poem by AlphaDelta

I looked you up the other day
for no reason but to know
Would I be better if you stay
Or can I finally let you go?

Because it's been years since we've spoken
we fell apart the usual way
And I suppose I'm not surprised
I still think of you each day

We weren't good together, yes it's true
but it was better than being alone
If we met now would you guess
We'd better now that we're grown

Because we were kids when we first met
At 20 and 17
Neither of us knew love yet
We were sure we'd know what it would be

But a short three weeks happened
And neither of us felt a thing
We parted ways, fell out of touch
Like the fates, we cut the string.

But even now, I think of you
And though I know the reasons why
If tomorrow you stopped and asked
I'd give it another try.
