Have you ever wondered why you're sworn to secrecy after you make a Wish?

Wishes are fragile things. That's why you can't tell people after you blow out the candles, or after your eye catches a falling star. If you do, they fall and shatter. But rules are meant to be broken, of course. But only once. If you tell someone your Wish, it is absolutely imperative that it's the right person for that particular Wish. That's the only way the Wish will survive. You tell the person, and if they are the right one, they catch it. And with them it resides and with them it thrives. But if you are wrong, you can bet you'll be wishing for something new.
