Lighters

Lighters

A Poem by Amber Leis
"

I can't let anyone get close

"
They never knew what hit them
They never thought twice
When I opened my mouth
And acted all nice

Thick wax poured on my head
Their words melted in the hot air
I added a wick and gave them a Bic
Telling them to light, if they dared

Were surrounded by the heat
Our clothes burnt off
Bodies stuck together
Unaware of the trade-off

Hands and lips move in rhythm
Until our bodies shake
But then they stick around
And that was their mistake

The fire on my head starts to burn us both
My scars emerge without clothes to hide
I push them away, trying to save them
With new burns the fire was put out as I cried.
