![]() The Final PromiseA Poem by Amitesh RoutThe Final Promise
Together with our hands clamped I stood beside her, The bed even was mourning In grief of lonely hours. The faults in our stars struck us by surprise Destiny played the devil And cost us moments of despise. Our hearts had slumped in despair and disgust, The rage soon dissolved into love, impuissance and tears. She held my palm, stared with hopeless eyes and reached for me whispering her prayers. A promise was all she asked But a promise far too unfair. I staggered and strayed in agony and fear yet gathered myself to gift her last wish in tears. As she lay past my head Counting her last, All she could blurt was my name, a cough And a promise to guide my heart. © 2015 Amitesh RoutReviews
