Insanity Defined

Insanity Defined

A Poem by Amy J

To protect your eyes

Is to shield the lies

The truth too scared to be told

To protect your eyes

Is to cover your cries

The cries of your unburdened soul

To protect your eyes

Is to hide your life

The life you so desperately hold

To protect your eyes

Is to call yourself blind

Blind to everything known

To call yourself blind

Is insanity defined

Only foolish people hide what they've shown

Wow, This is great writing but it is true, Why would they want to hide what they are?
Sometimes the truth is to scared to behold (like you said) Thats why we are scared of the truths and sometimes we tend to lie, we prefered the lie that supossly is ''better'' then the dead serious truth.
This poem is wonderful, Thank you for sharing this excellent piece of poetry

finding/being true to one's self is an arduous adventure .. so filled with fears and false pride and misleadings .. but what a price to keep once we succeed .. we look back and see how silly we may have been .. how insane we certainly can be .. the last line when i read it i wanted to read "... hide what they've sown" not shown .. i do understand "shown" but i have to wrestle with it a little to clarify it for myself ... otherwise for me your poem flows top to bottom with an interesting take on a very important part of life for us all :)

This gives me a kind of "the truth hurts" impression. You wrote it very well, really enjoyed how it flowed so well :)

Some people have all sorts of defence mechanisms Amy J and it's not true that only foolish people hide what they've shown, sometimes old sages, masters and teachers hide what they have shown because sometimes it is taken for granted and is not worth showing again. Interesting view point though. No hard feelings, you're still a great poet :)
