Taken by the Tide

Taken by the Tide

A Poem by Amy J

Beating down on us

Like the slaves we are

But the cool tide soothes our backs

A friend it may seem

Yet merely the serpent beneath the innocent petals

We hold tight

As they crunch down on us

Like a beast's jaw

It is sea that separates us

Yet continuing to unite us

As one

One entity

Strong

Breaking away

Another acquaintance lost

We ripple a chorus of goodbyes

As the Beast swallows whole

My grip grows weak

My brackish borders give in

Battered and beaten

I stumble stubbornly

I roll and revolve

Twist and turn

Punishing my peers

But I bow before my master

My head spinning

My body crumbling

I curtsey below my status

I fall above my rights

...for I am washed of my sins

I am washed by the blood of the Earth

Like the whites of an eye

I am engulfed by the foam

I am lost

A stone

Alone
