Mere Memories

Mere Memories

A Poem by Amy J

Further away

I hear your call

Your urge to be heard

But as your voice is silenced

Your face becomes a blank page

I draw with all my might what I hope to you

But it is a mere memory

A mistaken lie

For what I rely upon is a vision of yesterday

A hope which longing has faded

An image from the depths of an abyss

What I know now is not the truth of a life

But a willingness to understand

An endless wish of blackened innocence

Yet for now

I could stare for year and forget in an instance

For your face is forgotten and your life a legacy

A value so sentimental

So distant

So tainted by time

Delicate, dissipated, dispersed

A love of what is not

A hope of what can't be

A picture of you

A mere memory

The heart often remembers what the eye-brain chooses to forget - close the eyes - disable the easily fooled thing called vision - (after all TV is just a series of stills that are joined together which makes the eye-brain 'think' there is continuity.
Thanks for sharing this poignant writing.

Thank you so much! You definitely should, I'd love to read some of your stuff!
there are some regrets...i feel this poem and the what ifs it implies..
those sentimental memories start to become more and more distant.
and yet we still try so hard to remember.
