"I'm Scared..."

"I'm Scared..."

A Poem by Chris
"

I asked what a person was scared of... and they actually spoke.

"

"I'm Scared..."

I paused with each of your thoughts

- I didn't cry, though I felt the tears and frustrations

- I didn't laugh, to try breaking any tension or to misunderstand

- I didn't curse to ...to give acknowledgement and "been there"

I listened to my heart beat and felt the hollowness

I felt the world echo within my mind

and understood how frail it is to be you

to be us

today...

and what it is to face tomorrow.

The practice of presence... giving another's soul a safe space to express itself... a gift so rare we are blessed if one on our life knows how to give it... an art more than a science. True compassion flows through your words... yes, understanding what it is to be another, not trying to fix or change the topic. As Oriah Mountain Dreamer wisely asks,

"I want to know
if you can sit with pain
mine or your own
without moving to hide it
or fade it
or fix it."

This is a powerful piece, and I needed to read this tonight - so even though it was not send to me, and I came to your page, thank you for sharing it. I have had a bit of block in writing my own feelings down lately. And I appreciate the power of listening to one's own feelings of being scared, and that you were able to capture that moment. Again it may be due to my mood, but reading this I am very emotional. The last line especially "and what it is to face tomorrow" this is a pending thought on my mind constantly - and to understand the person who opened up and see the fragile state, well amazing. Again thank you for sharing your work.

ah to hear ones fear and sit as unmoved as a deep rooted tree to understand how fragile someone's world is and be able to make it crash down by the slightest movement and if you wanted or hold and let it stand... love the write

After reading this, I think, "Who could ask for more?" To be asked sincerely, truly, and to be listened to without flippant answers, or trite consolations...this is communication, and this is caring. I loved this.

These are the healthy fears.
The world echoing in your mind was a very colorful statement.

To pause and listen to fears. To ask and then to answer that takes courage. And to write it like this also....
