"Christmas..."

"Christmas..."

A Poem by Chris
"

...have a wonder-full Christmas and an amazing New Year...

"

Some times are more “interesting” - ya know what I mean?  That old curse - “Have an interesting life…” - really happens.  And some survive, and some …well, they try.

Sometimes you pause, and some times you’re paused.  Sometimes you pause just to speak with people - people that aren’t “yours” - they aren’t related to you - but you know when you LOOK at them that …that they just wanna talk.

“Christmas…”

No lil one... it isn’t just you.

- catch your breath -

Beginnings are as we  …find

our selves.

This is just another "meager" year...

McDonald's has often been out of reach,

But we're not speaking of me...

tis you.

Christmas...

The silly rhymes...

People caught up in commercial lines.

Same tired music.

Same tired things.

Getting angrier and angrier...

And then there’s

Christmas...

A kitchen table -

a handmade and drawn card

with "Tigger" boinging 'cross the front...

“Siiiilent Night, Hoooly Night”, and

mom’s tears falling one-by-one…

And then

a dark chill room - no tree nor lights...

a parent just "passed" last week.

Times are tight.

…and then…

10 fresh loaves of bread... 50 cents apiece...

left silently on the porch of the "God's Meal Barrel"

to say the best "thanks for the help" I could.

It wasn’t much but it was what I had.

Christmas …

It ain't about the shopping...

It ain't about the "me"...

It ain't 'bout money.

It's about the "you's"...

It's about what's inside.

It's about your heart lil one... and where it’s at.

The rest don't matter none at all.

We all dream as we can

…and candy canes and

candles and wishes,

snowmen and soap icicles

…fill in the dark

and leave eyes a-glistening

in the silence.

“Merry Christmas…”

TOUCHING...
what the holidays do mean to us and what they should mean to us.
Caught up in the rush....slow down and enjoy before the hush--it is over!
Smiles on that note.

All that is wrong and all that is right with Christmas is encapsulated here. I really enjoyed the way you wove the comparisons and contrasts so deftly together.

Happy new year and trust your Christmas was good.

Beccy.

I wish you and Charlie an amazing and wonder-full New Year. Come by and share a cup anytime...
I know I'm late, but Merry Christmas to you as well, Chris. May your 2015 be full of peace and prosperity.

The way you diverged from the traditional scenes of Christmas was refreshing. All too often we focus on possessions instead of people. You established the focus on people right away in your second stanza, which was so full of truth. My favorite stanza was the one with the card the child wrote to his mother. I choked up when I read those lines.

You really bring us the pure spirit of Christmas in this poem, with accurate pictures of everyday life. This is a masterful piece, my favorite of this holiday season.

You weren't late... just busy. I'm glad you paused... and spoke.
*sigh* Thank you for keeping the spirit warm in my heart, Chris. Happy 2015.

All the best to you and yours Rita...
I get so melancholy every year. Missing loved ones is just a part of it, I miss my home in Baltimore, and what's left of my family there. But, we each have a cross to bare, don't we?

I am most thankful that you're here in this place, where I know that you'll always be a friend to me...that makes the melancholy a bit easier to bare!

May the new year be kind to you, my dearest of friends!

If a heart is capable of breaking it will happen at Christmas.
