"Morning Coffee..." Poem

A Poem by Chris

"Morning Coffee..."

Morning coffee

is about attitude

and certainty,

about sunrise colors

reflected in eyes

and existence

and breathing

and...

you -

and me

and its tomorrow,

the morning after

and I'm not remembering -

yesterday.

I'm living and sharing

tomorrow...

sharing now.

Morning coffee -

looks, growls...

tickles, irritations

touches

more touches

holding

eyes... eyes...

tasting

fingertips amusing heartbeats

and caught breaths

and eyes defining heat

in tongues that understand -

unspoken language,

inarticulate cries...

rising, rising waves of

all you didn't know

concieve

believe

but wished so hard

touched so far, so far

beyond

beYOND

the tear thats leaking

FALLING

falling so far

far down

down

flying

so free so far so far away

and

and

breathing again

breathing

again

a g a i n...

Morning coffee -

risk-taking...

being -

safe...

being taken in heat that melts

EVERYTHING

giving all there is

because

just because...

and its accepted... mirrored...

held, looking back into your eyes

and the pot is poised above your cup

and the first drop hasn't fallen yet...

Morning coffee -

you

me

now... right NOW...

Its how YOU FEEL

right now -

its your THOUGHTS

right now -

and you KNOW

I understand

and you know

with no doubt at all

how you feel

and what you want.

"Morning coffee

is the kiss I gave your soul

as life rose in the sky

and finally echoed

in the windows of your eyes."

I love how you took something so common and plain and turned it into a sort of half-awake musing. It's almost like it's perfectly acceptable to be a bit daft early in the morning. The "suspense" with the pour was fun. The first verse reminded me of the iridescence that you sometimes get on really strong coffee from the oil, I don't know whether it was intentional, that's the great thing about poetry though it can turn out far worse than we expected, it's also full of happy accidents.

This piece is very languid and i think it fits your setting very well

So much more here than coffee! I loved your final stanza in particular. Lovely, lovely write.

you have a nice brew of words here, not black, not creamy, not sugary, just a right caffeinated elixir of the soul flow half stirred and cupped in another's hands sipped nice and slow....good stuff

This was so soft, subtle, so everyday and yet presented in an entirely new way. I really enjoyed reading and thinking on this. Looking forward to reading more of your work.

Chris, such a fabulous poem. Many of us have shared these moments with someone special and you have turned the act of drinking that morning coffee together into a beautifully spiritual act. Love it!

Expanded...still pondering....Morning coffee holds the promises of the coming day, the expectations, the desires, the wants, the fears...the reflection of the eyes that dream for each new day. The heat of now, never tomorrow. But always a promise....
