"We Live As We Can..."

"We Live As We Can..."

A Poem by Chris

My friend, Laury - Eclipsing Moon-blood red
wrote and posted "As One Tear Drops"
It moved me directly to... places -
and this fell...

"We Live As We Can...

Seldom As We Want."

So many paths through the years -

roads always less and less - traveled,

tears marking the footfalls.

...and you wonder - "...how..."

and remember each why

as you lay in the dark

and sometimes you shake with the

emotion that never really left -

the heart.

You kept it all held so tight within,

and you cry - and you aren't supposed to DO that -
THAT,

and you cry harder

because you just HAVE to -

cry...

I've gently, lovingly, longingly held

teddy bears

and given them too

and sat in the wet and cold gazing at nothings

- you CAN pray to die

meaningfully

and wishfully.

- you can accept

life

and the aftermath of living through

life

...but seldom the surviving.

Chris

Chris, your compassion for others moves me. I was beginning to wonder if there were any people like you left in this world.

An inspiration as always. Glad I had a chance to read some of your work again. I love how you use the difference in italic, bold, and font size to accentuate some of the words. This one hit close to home on it's meaning as well. Excellent read, thank you.

You basically just described my life. This piece moved me more than you know...
I have never really been able to describe in writing just what you did here.
I love the hard truths and the blatant contradictions...the teddy bear and sitting "in the wet and cold gazing at nothings"
The last stanza is very true. A exposing and powerful piece.

You wisdom is always pleasing. I love the way you write, with your heart always. You teach lessons, whether you mean to or not.

A powerful write. Very moving. I always remember the Scott Peck books, ...life is painful. ...and sometimes you shake with the emotion that never really left the heart. I loved this line. It touched that place that's all papered over and hidden within so I can carry on regardless. The masks we wear are all we have sometimes. Thanks. Happy new year to you and yours. Trish.

sO TRUE CHRIS.. SURVIVING THE AFTERMATH OF LIVING IS THE MOST DIFFICULT..alone we learn more or less to live with.. lonesome without friends is nigh impossible to do.. at least for Me.. nothing has value like a friends time ..to listen and converse on ..practically anything.. ty Chris..

I agree with you. This is an awesome free verse.
