We all Fall Down

We all Fall Down

A Poem by Andrew Mcguinness

we fold like origami lungs passing air to our mouths
and pushing words passed our lips that rip when they meet the oxygen
the metal yields, it divides. as our eyes roll
the windshield is falling fast through our hair, and teeth and dashboards are chattering

fingers folded in figure eights
tighten to sixteenths
as the wheels screech us to a stop
and the whole world falls down around us

we'll dance the dance of the demons as interpreted by the mutts
in the spotlight of lamp poles still lit just for us
we'll toast the sunrise two hours early in case we don't last the night
we'll praise the clouds for raining fire just for bringing light

ashes to ashes we all burn down
memories to nothingness all the homes on this block will fall
we'll move west behind the wreckage sticking our flag in new claims
naming the land for our forefathers where and if they remain
communiqués were sent from the pacific but today is too late to say the least
Massachusetts had relocated to the west coast of the far east
end of transmission
and
the end of New England
