Loud Change

Loud Change

A Poem by Annie Wilthew

Change is one
Who seems gentle and painless
Yet when it happens
It knocks me breathless.

It makes my supposedly silent steps
Thunder and boom like a giant.
It causes a tree's pale yellow breaking leaves
Twang and screech like an iron cord.
It makes the frothy fading clouds
Hiss and dissolve like gaseous chemicals

I wish change
Could softly kiss me on the cheek
As I drift away
In my embarkation of sleep

On my
drifting hazy rest
I would say
Goodbye to change and all it's guests
