Remember Nothing

Remember Nothing

A Poem by Annebelle Ashire

Your curious eyes have never met
My own - once a deep brown,
- no longer wet.

Your cautious heart has never beat
In sync with my own - what was once red and blue
- is now concrete.

Your traveling feet have never paced
Along side my own - once quickly moving
- I wonder if this thought will ever be embraced.

Your hungry mind has never discovered
My own - once full of elegant horror
- now completely covered.

You will have never walked the same ground as I
You will have never seen the same sights as I
You will have never tasted the same bitter truth as I
You will have never heard the same pleas as I..

But more than anything,
You will have never understood who I am.
Because "who I am"
Cannot be defined by you, nor man.

Reading this does not clearify
"Who" I am
but rather
"Why" I was.

And so,
I lay somewhere beneathe bits of earth
Cold and useless.
You will never be possitive
What reading this was worth..

You will set this sheet of paper aside
Wishing there was some way to speak to this writer.
But you seem to have claimed my page as a broken guide
Searching aimlessly for it's parted fighter.

The only thing you'll ever know,
Is that you will remember nothing.
From here on out, you will bestow
A memory of transparent fishing string...
