We Didn't Bring You Up to be Gay

This is some of what my grandmother told me when I came out to her. Needless to say, it didn't go particularly well...

 

“Why do you think you’re gay?”

 

“I don’t just think it, I know it.”

 

“How do you know it?”

 

“I was born this way!” 

 

“Oh no you weren’t!  I didn’t raise a gay grandchild…

 

It’s because your father left when you were little

It’s because you won’t let God into your life

It’s because your mother didn’t bond with you

It’s because you haven’t met the right person yet

It’s because you were an only child

It’s because you didn’t have enough friends as a kid

It’s because you came under the bad influence of that other kid

It’s because you were left alone too much

It’s because you never had a best friend

It’s because the Devil is trying to take you over

It’s because evil is always looking for victims

It’s because your imagination is too active

It’s because you’re stubborn

It’s because you’re young and stupid

It’s because you’re imagining all this.”

Sounds so familiar.
You managed to summarize all these "excuses" parents/relatives/whoever try to find in order to "explain" the behaviour of their child. Sad but true.
And yes it sounds also like a person I know.

Well my darling, there is a simple and sever point to this all, and here it is. Regardless of what she says' or what you are or are not, she is the one that has alienated some of the only love she has accsess to, great read.
