Beyond the Window Pane

Beyond the Window Pane

A Poem by Anthony C.
"

“The earth has music for those who listen.” - George Santayana

"

The clear window pane fogs

into a cloudy gray

from my breath.

I slide open the window,

letting a cool breeze caress my face

and the sound of the world flow into my ears.

Crickets chirp their stories,

and birds sing their songs

into the quiet nighttime.

A dog barks in someone’s yard,

cars rumble in the distance,

and the voice of people talking echoes from afar.

An airplane flies above silently,

resembling the small, bright lights

that dot the nighttime sky.

The colors of the rainbow

still peak above the trees

as the sun completes its journey.

That Earthly smell

of dirt and grass and trees

fills my lungs.

The outside world engulfs me

with its beauty and tranquility

as I stare beyond the window pane.

Author's Note

Anthony C.
This poem took me outside of my comfort zone... I am used to using a rhyme scheme with four lines in each stanza and a complete thought on each line... That being said, I am curious as to how you think it turned out. I cannot judge my own pieces. Do not hold back in your reviews! Suggestions and other comments are HIGHLY appreciated and the favor will be returned. Thanks!
