I Once Dreamt of Heaven

I Once Dreamt of Heaven

A Poem by Apebble

I once dreamt of Heaven,

Where I entered, chin to chest.

Long awaited were the angelic voices

To close my eyes and be blessed.

Though upon my entrance it was silent,

No drums nor trumpets gave their tune.

Yet within the quiet came a beauty,

That which no creature could impugn.

Away from the clamor and calamity,

Apart from the noise from whence we came,

Only impartial silence pervaded this arena,

That voice would only give it shame.

Then from the legion of angels came three,

Armed with violin, not shield or sword.

From them ascended the faintest song,

Which, from silence, made a roar.

As the violins grew evermore thunderous,

Five angels stepped forth to perform-

Crooning in harmony, one with the other,

And violins all in one accord.

After which came the trumpets,

The voice of the thousands coming to rise,

Filling the once silent paradise with music,

Voices flowing together into the skies.

Yet not one of us dared to speak,

Not one lifted their voice into song-

Remaining ever quiet, ever silent,

All knew their voice did not belong.

Then from the skies came millions more,

Clothed in gold or angelic light,

Descending upon we once mere mortals,

Filling the halls with glory and might.

They took our hands, encouraging us to sing,

From which the crowd of wretches came a cry,

Though I knew it not until all looked upon me,

I discovered that the first voice was mine.
