ANDIAMO

ANDIAMO

A Poem by April Child

I haven't been to Rome

though my heart's there

now, riding around in a

white Fiat 500, draped

in a garland of daisies,

beeping the horn

while "Amore" blasts

from the stereo and

out through the open

sunroof onto crowded

piazzas where pavement

diners look up, smile

and raise their glasses

of chilled pinot grigio.

I got postcards too,

from the bridge of lovers

and Trevi fountain,

saying simply...

"wish you were here"

and I know soon I will

be for I have no choice

but to follow

my heart.

Well written piece. I like the way you control the tone, as if the reader was sitting in the passenger seat of the fiat holding on for dear life. Then you break the poem, twice. We must be stopped at a light, and here, you gave us a poignant thoughtful ending. Enjoyed this ride immensely

I like this a lot. I feel like it could have ended at "chilled pinot grigio" but the last 2 stanzas are nice as well.

This was a great poem. I live an hour from Rome and you described it pretty well =)

A lovely cameo with all the feeling of romantic Rome encapsulated in the longings of the heart

Very nice. Follow your heart and that fast car .....

I can see the image of a woman in a tight white dress, cigarette in long black holder dark hair curling down her back and just the slight nod of her head when she makes the decision....
