Canine Elvis

Canine Elvis

A Poem by April Child
"

A poem about a very special dog indeed

"

Twitching lips

curl up to reveal teeth

restless legs

canine Elvis

Fruit bat ears

one up, one down

which he never

quite seemed

to grow into

I reach out to

stroke Monty dog

shiny and black

lying limp beside me

one eye lazily opens

inner lid remains

at half mast

Listless lump stirs

slumbering

lumbering

his warm furry form

nestling against me

drops his head on my neck

and there we lie

entwined like lovers

he smacks his lips

lets out a sigh

and snores softly

in my ear

Man's best friend! Total unconditional love! What a loving tribute! I like this...makes me feel warm and fuzzy, like his ears...I miss my dog. Good writing, though, but now I miss my dog. :)

Ah this is so cute. Adoreable. I love the description and the pictures too. And that's a great conclusion

and there we lie
entwined like lovers
he smacks his lips
lets out a sigh
and snores softly
in my ear

you really capture the moment.

Bloody brilliant. Lovely description...what harmony you describe. One happy hound! Great title too...i was totally intrigued when I saw it in my bin, did not even twig it was a poem at first. And the poem gets stronger as it builds as you unload the memory and the emotion of it. 'I reach out to stroke...' nice and active. The lalf-mast desciption is great. But the best lines for me start with 'Drops his head on my neck'. Then you become almost an observer describing the scent to your audience, 'And there we lie'. The final five lines are wonderful.

Ah sweet community - gotta love our pooches! Had one myself for 13 yrs that saw me thru more than even my best friend! Could say more to my doggie.... They are such a part of us. This poem shows the love, the care and the special - very special time you two shared. Love the images - could draw you a picture based on the description - love that - to have such a nice visual of the two of you just hanging out.... Glad you celebrated and shared!
