Ghost Orchid

Ghost Orchid

A Poem by April Child
"

The Ghost Orchid really does look like an albino frog, google it :)

"

Pristine white apparition

rising from swampy pool

sits aloof in isolation

beauty providing no company

Unique without leaf or stem

clinging invisibly to tree

seeming otherworldly

suspended in midair

albino frog mid leap

Easily overlooked

overshadowed by towering palms

uniform fat shiny leaves

vying for attention

growing entangled

Wistfully waiting

comical yet serene

her nightime perfume

alluring to her only suitor

a moth

for no-one in their right mind

would visit this place by night

I did what you suggested and Googled it - fascinating.

The famed 'Ghost Orchid', gem of the leafless orchids and among the rarest of the native Florida orchids. This outstanding plant is entirely leafless, consisting of a radiating cluster of greenish roots with tiny white stripes.

Also, I agree with Ragtag Jesus that the Albino frog mid leap is a wonderful image. Lovely poem.

the moth isn't the only one allured to it's side. :)

this is a beautiful piece. i love the image of the albino frog midleap. that's what poetry should do... remove the filters from people's perceptions of the world.
