Silent Scene

Silent Scene

A Poem by Ariel
"

I am in an Improv group. Sometimes our leader has us do a scene without talking. I began to notice how much more meaning there is when connections between people are made in silence.

"

The silent scene

Reveals what’s true

No pointless words

Not false appeal

Your head might spin

As you see what doesn’t make the cut

All that was once valued

Is lost in the abyss

What matters in the end

Is the actions

The emotions

The connections

But how are you to know?

Looking at life through the silent scene perspective

You’re forced to stop and look around

What have I been doing as words spill out from my lips?

I didn’t even notice

The life that surrounds me

The heroes

The victims

And the ones playing both

The dead and the dying

Clothed in empty words

Deceiving and assuring you

They’re fine

The silent scene strips them

Left ashamed

And naked

You see the life behind despite eyes

The world is silent

The earth stands still

But connections grow to be the strongest

Communication is powerful

When communication ceases

And a world once run by words

Shatters into something beautiful
