Waiting, For a New Generation

Waiting, For a New Generation

A Poem by Ariel Olivia
"

Impatience.

"
Emptiness, regret

Thinking should be the last of my worries

But I can't help but worry and think

Maybe... the acidic tone of the morning...

Maybe it's suppose to be awful

The TV went out hours ago

Grey, white and black streaks with an annoying buzz

Like a depressing drunken night has become one

The windows are fogged and dirty

Burning eyes, tic, tic, tic

Everyone else is either already gone or asleep

The town in silence... It's almost priceless

The perpetual violence leaks through the trees

No one knows one another, they know of each other

But make no effort to know anyone

Which is fine, because in the end

None of it will matter

The nicotine rush before stepping out the door

That heavy feeling comes across your chest

Smokers cough, possibly infected

Into the humid, dew of the morning

The taste of tooth paste & Listerine

Sitting in the car staring into nothing

Indefinite feeling of shame

Hoping you're not late

Pretending you have a different life

Pretending to be important

But if all the others knew, they'd yell "ignorance!"

"You aren't going anywhere, silly child." they say

I say importance is the number one idea

& If I'm important enough for you to knock

Then I'm important enough to get out of this place

This place... Disgusting, all to familiar

All the faces I already know

They know me too, and I know for a fact

It's risky when you've got a face.
