Humpback

Humpback

A Poem by Ashira Macy

You twosome

Teasing jesters,

Diving down below.

Flowing, playing, dancing

How you love

Each other so.

Great curved backs

Emerge from the sea

With such clear pride;

Shooting water

Through the air,

Gravity aside.

Wading along

The rock-clothed shore

Forever in a pair

Singing in tandem

Harmonies that

Show how much you care.

This piece definitely got me on a personal level... I love the way you depict the whales, in their awe-inspiring majesty... not just for their sheer might and size, but also in their connection with each other. Not really sure what to say, on a free-verse such as this, beyond that this moved me. Thanks for sharing.

Such an elegantly descriptive poem, your words took on movement, and the imagery was beyond fantastic, great one Ashira.

Oh cool, you added whale sounds, was my pleasure. :)
This is a really nice piece. A wonderful description of one of nature's most gracious creatures. I would only suggest adding a beautiful image and a spot of whale song to the piece.

Thanks so much, I had been trying to use just normal links.
Fascinating how a poet can be inspired to put pen to paper by almost anything. No forces of gravity hold this back, it's quite lovely.

Thank you Beccy, I often take inspiration from the nature that I see, we live in an amazing world.
Yeah, this is good. I guess it's nice to see or read about whales caring about each other, as opposed to reading about how much we're supposed to care about whales.

I care about whales, though.

What a beautiful piece you've crafted Ashira.
Lovers frolicking, free, tender, passionate.
Be they whale or human makes no difference to me.
This poem is a beauty!

Thanks so much Ana, I am so happy you liked it!
Whales are indeed impressive creatures and regrettably have been cruelly hunted by mankind down through the centuries, so it's pleasing to read a poem praising their magnificence!

A fine homily indeed in poetic form!

Thank you Tom, and you are too right. Human beings can be so cruel.
You have great command of rhythm, rhyme and meter! The first two stanzas made me think you were describing a pair of frolicking whales. The last stanza made it clear that the human pair on the rock-frocked shore were feeling the inspiration of perhaps only thoughts and dreams of the freedom of mated whales.

I love the way your poem makes me feel rocked as I read it and enlightened as I consider its purpose! You have a gift!

This is fine just as it is. I love the idea of humpback whales dancing together in the ocean.
