Changeling

Changeling

A Poem by Mother Maggie

Author's Note

Mother Maggie
only yesterday
the frozen grip of winter
chilled the bones
burned fingers that dared
venture from relative safety
of mitten embrace

only last night
I lay entombed beneath
comforting quilts
while the very trees
shivered in the wintry air

only this morning
silent freezing fog
glazed the pavement
making passage
nigh impossible

now glorious sun
warm caressing rays
a false spring
and I find myself
encumbered by too many layers
