Balance
The edge of a blade
Over the pit of oblivion
Light and dark
Balance
A thin strand of silk
Stretched across the endless chasm
Light and dark
Balance
Crystal spiral spinning
Dancing on the clovis point
Light and dark
Each spark—a tribe, a nation
Holding the light—pacifying the dark
Life and light taken only in reverence
Balance maintained
Life and light taken in anger
The balance shifts
Life and light taken in disregard
The balance shifts
Life and light taken without grace
The balance shifts
As each species vanishes
The blade tilts
As each species is lost
The silken thread trembles
As each species dies
A part of the light darkens
The spiral—the one
Wobbles then cracks
Against the obsidian point of destruction
Leaving only the darkness

Interesting,
It seems to me this is very pointed to the idea of balance, need for evil as good would be meaningless without it. I like this but it was a bit hard to read through for me, I didn't feel a flow. nice write though.

We as a species are out of balance with nature and the sacred spiral. This poem comes from a vision I experienced after watching silly old 'men'...aged boys if you will play a game called "Safari"...I believe the point of the video game was to shoot the hell out of everything that moved to show what a great hunter you were. True hunting is a sacred pact between the hunter and the hunted...life should only be taken out of necessity or compassion...any other reason is unacceptable. My words come from the revulsion of what I saw in that game and the horror of what's to come if humanity doesn't wake up.

Hunting meant something when it was done to sustain life, now it is often a macho thing to do. I prefer bow hunting if you're gonna hunt, it evens the playing field.
