HodgePodge

HodgePodge

A Poem by Avery James
"

I've been lazy. Here's what I've churned out over the past several months.

"
With words
I'm caught n released.
Clocks you spun cease
and a crease left
where we part.

My knight in shining armor
boasts no gallant fame
his name amounts to
himself.
I find solace in the stories
of dents in his rusted frame.

I'm alone 9:30 to ten
and the TV silent.
My world is quiet and
I think of you.

I discover secrets in your eyes
absent from touch.
The way we kiss
leaves no room for such.
You presume yourself a mystery
but a puzzle I've grasped.
Your pieces missing
accent color in gaps.

He placed two soft kisses on the bare skin of my forehead. With his heart as my pillow
I loved him as a companion of the mind. Our bodies reveled once.

My words
turn creases to canyons
and we begin
with a part.
I emerge from the abyss
clutching my new heart.

Dallas looms as my room becomes empty. My heart feels similar,
but expectant throughout. My trip south quenches my youth
as a drought threatens to ensue. I remove him from my life and
bounce the f**k out. Kyle and Fite never doubt my presence
and the rest is incessant fun. I run free just being myself.
Milad's house shelves few memories, especially of ecstasy.
There my attention caught but retention released. In the morning
the pool was cool and refreshing and our friendships mesh
as we spend the time. Hebron Street means we never leave
the familiar but our plans for the night fight the considerable.
"Have fun," they say but never listen to their words. We heard them
with promise as the sun went down. The outskirts of town bring me to
Afterlife, where I've just begun to live. His hands are my heartbeat
and we dance for hours. My mind becomes cosmic
as a flower I bloom in this dark room.

Our lives clash
for a flashing night
and then we are removed.
You words soothe
in these digital letters
yet better remains.
Until then, our stories told
and we are a casual romance on hold.
