Compunction

Compunction

A Poem by BETHUEL TJEBANE

I wish I could reboot my life and mend all the hearts that I've broken.
Address and redress all the lies that I've spoken.
It mortifies me that I brought you pain and misery.
I promised you eternal love but now we're history.

You'd want me to make love to you but I would f**k you.
You'd ask me to come closer and caress you but I would go deeper and suck you.
You'd say "I love you" and I'd say "luv u 2" and each time the 'i' was omitted.
You swore to never leave me but I was never committed.

I used to snap at you for showing concern.
Your 'soulmate' must have been one of the guys that I made you spurn.
Sorry I squandered your time only if I could inverse it.
Spoke of loyalty and trust but I couldn't inves' it.

We tangled but our spirits were never in conjunction.
My conscience couldn't hold up with this compunction.
You gave me love but all I did was cheat and lie.
I'm sorry and I'll feel bad till the day I die.
