Give Me Summer

Give Me Summer

A Poem by Brad

Give me a boat on still water
A forgotten book and fishing pole
Slipping from relaxed fingers
While birds and insects sing a lullaby

Give me a scenic overlook
Trees one-sided from prevailing wind
A view down distant valleys
Dissolving into purple mist

Give me Little League games
Faces sticky, dirty, and red
The joy of the ice cream truck
And running screaming from the hose

Best of all give me night
When the warm, humid air breathes peace
The stars wish to speak with me
And the fireflies light the way home

This was wonderful and dreamy like a walk back through my childhood to the creek below the mountainside where we used to swim. I could almost smell fresh rain on that red dirt road. There was an old wooden bridge with three inch gaps between the timbers. I used to fear getting my foot caught and breaking an ankle walking across it. The joys of summer in youth. This is so recognizable and familiar to me. The write touched me.

I am so damn jealous! This is the best poem I've read all week! I love this! You do all the things I love to see, such as using a ton of fresh details to SHOW instead of tell, like using a ton of sensory for all the senses, and each stanza has a particular flavor of summer. This is the kind of poem that makes me want to write about SUMMER too! *smile* Fondly, Margie

This is an excellent poem that is so good I can feel the breeze from those nights out in my youth. 1 review is shameful. This should have 100.
