What is love?

What is love?

A Poem by Ralphy

What is love

A chemical reaction
shared by two precious souls,
on a mist of helium
that slowly lifts to the occasion,
an obsession of osculation

The taste of a chocolate kiss
savoring in your mouth, dark, sumptuousness
coating the tongue with color, sweetness,
and melting, until every ounce
has vaporized into a glorious memory

Two birds sharing a nest
one gathers the twigs
while the other knits and sews
together they remain as family
singing until the dawn of a new day

A mother protecting her cubs
in the stalk of a unfriendly territory
her love for those cubs, priceless
more than the setting sun
after a fresh falling rain

A caterpillar cultivating
gathering necessity from the world
hidden is the truth, known only to itself
a magical brush of color in time
until it dries and awakes the butterfly

A  hometown hero
on the day of the champion game
while catching the winning pass,
the fireworks signify it all
with a grand cheer of adore

A moonless night
as the stars dance above your head
the crispness of the air as it caresses
your face, the sounds of a moment,
captured in a vision,
a third dimensional  gateway to heaven

So what is love, as you venture
out  in the morning
watching the birds nesting and singing
animals playing with their young
licking the fresh dew off a leaf
celebrating a new birth

Lovers savoring chocolates
smelling the bouquet of flowers
where bee’s nectar honey
watching a child giggle in joy
mommy and daddy touch nose
to hide the sudden passion

flying beauties flapping in the breeze
spotlighted by golden rays
each press of the wing steals the moment…

What is love?
I will let you know as soon as
the morning suns escapes and dries
the stream flowing from my swollen eyes

You capture these amazing moments so beautifully..the essence of love and loving..

"Lovers savoring chocolates
smelling the bouquet of flowers
where bee's nectar honey
watching a child giggle in joy
mommy and daddy touch nose
to hide the sudden passion"

And how so often we experience pain at the loss of it...Exquisite..

Thanks, now I have Haddaway stuck in my head. "What is love, baby don't hurt me. Don't hurt me no more." I really like the style of this. Very sensual. The ending was very beautiful. Nice work!

Love comes in many forms and levels... I really like how you described many facets of it that many wouldn't think of. Another great and insightful piece.
