An Unexpected Addition

An Unexpected Addition

A Poem by Alicia Hirshey
"

The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother never did. A mother is absolutely new.

"
Tiny life,
Stirring inside.
So close to my heart,
Hearing it's heartbeat for the first time.
Little heartbeat,
Imagine my joy,
For the second time I'm told,
"It's A Boy"
A playful kick,
Every now and again,
Makes my life worth living,
Through all the pain I'm in.
A little face,
That I will soon see,
And on that day,
I will finally meet,
The angel growing inside of me.
My joy is overwhelming,
You'd think I was high,
And all of this,
Because we made life.
All my days,
Spent counting down,
Until the day,
You decide to come out.
This Happiness,
That I am feeling inside.
Cannot be shaken,
Even if I tried.
