Masked Away

Masked Away

A Poem by Alicia Hirshey

"

A shell
Of former life
Distant as the star bound sky
Emptiness is calling
Saving nothing
Throwing away

Who I am
And
Who I was
Masked away
Hidden among thieves
In a shadowy place

Daily perfection
Mixed with
Mirrored imperfection
I can't seem to keep
The demons away

Change your appearance
Its all in good grace
Falling down from the toadstool
A princess masked away

Author's Note

Alicia Hirshey

I really don't think that anyone in this world knows the real me. My closest friends know me better than anyone else, but I don't think I’ve ever let certain sides of me come out around anyone except myself. I keep some feelings hidden because no one would understand, and even if they did understand, there wouldn't be anything that anyone could do to make the feelings disappear

Great poem...Nice picture too..From the adage, "You only know my name, not my story"...People tend to know u but they're really not aware of your feelings...I wish they'll understand you...That situation looks difficult...Cheer up! :)))

One of the poems that I will have the pleasure to read it more than one time... A remarkable style, a very well-written lines which paint so many images and thoughts. The last stanza is perfectly amazing.

This is a dark poem, but shares truths that we dont share.
It was honest and courageous. Great work.

Lol. I thought your author's note said "closet friends". Made me laugh. And I know what you mean. There are so many things that say who I am, but nobody knows that side of me and for me, I keep it to myself more out of fear than anything else.

"We all have demons, defects, and desires. But it is how a person deals with them that defines them." Me
We all have a part of us that we wish to hide and be unseen for fear of rejection or shame. I am the same way, its a part of all of us. Everybody has a shadow.
