introspection

introspection

A Poem by Rebecca Leigh
"

just some free-writing I thought up today

"
Our culture is declining,
being swallowed whole by folly,
communication is endangered,
unless it is printed in abbreviations on a tiny monolithic screen.
and when it comes to books?
who needs those when you can download the movie version off of Netflix?!
When did the world crawl underground.
I missed when the curtain befell over our eyes.
actors and singers(I used that term with the utmost grain of salt) are more important than philosophers, and doctors.
Everyone is addicted to knowledge, but don't stop to consider if their knowledge is true!
I grew up in a house where the arts were holy, and critical thinking, intelligence reigned.
Appearance of ones self was prideful and respectful.
Creativity and imagination flourished.
now it seems if there is not an led light attached to a child's hand, they cannot function.
taking time to do things is an archaic notion of the past,
for humans demand immediacy.
The English language is disintegrating, from what was a beautiful languid tool, a shortened made up, book of nonsense resides instead.
Call me old fashioned, but this day and age, nothing is precious any longer.
People love things and use people. I only hope I live to see the day that fact is reversed to how it used to be.
Our culture is declining,
But I am not a part of it.

This so true human interaction is becoming a dying form of communication in so many ways from how it used to be everything's is becoming more materialistic and society as whole is losing individuality in many forms from birth the path seems like the path is already burned out for some people a prescribed method for living thinking feeling and everything lose meaning when nothing of your own volition. very thought provoking piece
Great write

I couldn't agree more. Love the title. Everything is so superficial and artificial. Seems like no one does any original thinking anymore. Guess they're too busy texting with abbreviations LOL. Our culture is declining - glad to see you won't succumb to it. Money made America great & money is ruining it.

obviously, from reading your words, "you are not part of it"---

you use words beautifully and they still have meaning for you.

Since i am an English teacher, this hits home so much, My colleagues and i lament over this constantly. The language is being raped by texting, face to face contact has gone to a screen. We used to play outside all day, and we made up games...used our imagination...not so now as much because of technology...it is destroying the search for truth, the journey. Everything now is the quick fix, instant gratification.

I agree Rebecca.
"The English language is disintegrating, from what was a beautiful languid tool, a shortened made up, book of nonsense resides instead.
Call me old fashioned, but this day and age, nothing is precious any longer."
We need the old ways. Long conversation and coffee, family time and meals. I liked the honest and good thoughts in the poetry. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry.
