Memo to me

Memo to me

A Poem by Beccy

(On having left the city behind.)

The evidence of my reconstruction is everywhere.
Gold and diamond become little more than
pointless ornament, in the same manner
as a designer style apartment
and the avarice I once employed
are less than single grain of sand;
but even so, I suspect I weigh much
the same as when I took my leave.

Presently, the journey is only part complete;
for though layer on flippant layer
of bounty has been peeled away,
I have still to harvest the full benefits
of my molten heart; those immeasurable
billions of amorphous synaptic impulse.
But never fear, I will soon enough,
it is, after all, the nature of the beast;

And who knows, if fancy dictates and
the board of directors carry the vote,
I might even enjoy motherhood
without the stain of disapproval
from those higher tables I once graced.

no matter what we say or write, we're always telling our own story; but now, slipping from behind the shadow show of rhyme and reach, we see the lady in the light, the ashes of history, the possibility of further mergers and acquisitions, a life, full and large, and oh so smart

I like this dab best: 'layer on flippant layer of bounty has been peeled away'.
I can see a skip, or skips being involved to carry off the peelings. It makes me think of how we all accreate attitudes and traits without even noticing as we progress through life. Sometimes we become so encrusted our thoughts narrow and harden. But sometimes we have to take a wild risk and explore ourselves. We are more alive when we do. Less comfortable perhaps, but more alive.
