Sisters

Sisters

A Poem by Beccy

After school, all in the park,
sharing secrets; swings and slides,
the traffic barely breathes a sigh
where safe behind the canopy of trees,
we took our turns, absorbed the world ;
best friends, just brief and small divides
that barely breached the trusting eye.

Three decades since, all on the bus,
conversations back and forth,
the traffic roars, blots out the sky;
we talk of trees and swings and slides
the paths we chose along the way.
Still friends, just brief and small divides
that never breach the trusting eye.

...................... I have much the same special kind of relationship with my younger brother .. I have written about it several times but have never felt entirely happy with the result ... I either need more practice, or to take a leaf out of your book ................................. Like Susan said before me .. your little poem is lovely, warm and happy

dear Beccy... this reminds me of my grade school years
when without a sister of my own... I thought of a few of my friends as sisters.
Two of them had a younger brother and one had a sister. I often think of
the innocent fun we had and there were only two reunions when we were older...
but you never forget the secret sharing of trivial things... somehow they are very important.
You are quiet a story-teller; and also a lovely poetess. gently, Pat

' we talk of trees and swings and slides .. the paths we chose along the way. '

Those two phrases sum up the bond between sisters and long.known friends.. everything shared but little needed to tell all, things are just known and felt.. from both sides.

Your words hug, Beccy. they tell your and those wonderful people's special story, somehow always remembered, chapter by chapter.. As ever each stanza is voiced beautifully. Aren't we fortunate, Beccy,. Wish there was a way of reaching out to those with less.. if only. xx

This exemplifies the unbreakable and singular relationships of siblings, for me. Our whole lives threaded together and the years seem to bring only a greater closeness and understanding. The past weaving itself into the present and future where we still see ourselves side by side.

I love the repetition you’ve used, Beccy. It recalls, for me, the ways we mature and see the world in a more clear-eyed way with age, but still we maintain the spirit of our youth and what we learned there. Here it’s a lesson of lasting love and trust that translates into a friendship that transcend life circumstance.

A beautiful rendering of the sisterly bond. I always enjoy your poems.

So lucky to have friendships that endure time
Beautiful poem Beccy. :)

'Shared secrets between best friends, divides that never breach the trusting eye,' Such beautiful sentiments beccy.

This has love writ large in every line, and the rhyming, which I found to be both clever and charmingly subtle, made the whole poem flow quite seamlessly from first line to last.

You really are a wonderful poet.

And in the decades in between, paths diverge, cross and move with the fluidity of life and living, but ever close in mind and heart no matter geography.
In meeting, smiles smiled and years dissolve, at catching up and how lifes lived, not even noticing the joins of absence forgot.
Beautifully put.
