A Cautionary Tale

A Cautionary Tale

A Poem by Bekkoned
"

For my mother.

"
Oh, this life of mine
Leaving it all behind
Oh, woah is me
Dreaming about what it could have been

A cautionary tale is mine
Filled with pain and too much wine
And a lover that says that he’s fine
As he chokes on another line

Our children were taken by the system you see
Young Alice was nine and Julio three
I ask Alice now she’s growing, what would she like to be
She says anyone but me... anyone but me?

So I crawl to my hole in some welfare town
Find a bottle of Port and drink it all down
Go to bed feeling like the most spectacular clown
Yet wake up with a tear and a frown

I’ll blame everyone else for the mess that’s my life
Wont look in the mirror to see who’s holding the knife
Let thick blood drip from my veins down my side
Blame everyone else, everyone lied

I’ll throw those that love me into the dirt
Kick them twice to make sure it hurt
See me and destruction we like to flirt
No one gets me but Shania and Kurt

So a cautionary tale is mine
Got a big mouth but I’m missing a spine
Ask me how the kids are and I’ll tell you they’re fine
Before I drink some wine and snort that line..

Gamble my pay check
Pretend I’m not in debt
Rob the liquor store
Because clearly I need more
Go stab old mate
Just to prove I’ve got hate
End up back in the locker
With some old rocker
Fall in love with Malice
And try to kill Alice.

So forgive me while I trip over my broken dreams
Come apart at the seams, release my pent up screams
Hang myself from the highest beams,
think up another scheme
See this Cautionary tale is free
Feel sorry for me.
