Smooth Sailing

Smooth Sailing

A Poem by A. Kim Spradling
"

Stormy seas allow us to appreciate the calm.

"

White hot lightning

Across the sky.

Dark clouds rolling,

Billowing by.

Cold wind blowing.

High rolling waves.

This is the weather

No sailor craves.

Slowly peeking from

A dingy, drab cloud,

The forgotten sun,

Is shining so proud.

The grey skies clear.

Highly unexpected.

Squall now a gust.

Nothing is affected.

The surge reins

To settle and slow,

As the bright warm sun

Continues to glow.

Life!  So, volatile,

And also like the sea!

Huge waves roll,

Then, calm as can be.

Feelings are like

The great salty deep.

They sink until hidden,

Forever to keep.

It's high time to BE,

And quit life's derailing.

Then set a course

For restful smooth sailing.

yes life can be smooth sailing at times but most of the time turbulent but depends on the person, so maybe the best solution is just to go with the flow.

yes so true everything should be smooth sailing but sometimes it does not happen so we should always be prepared for the inevitable.

Thank you for your comment.
I enjoyed this.....apparently enough to be at a loss of words for how to express my thoughts on it. The progression is intriguing - the way you went deep into the profound on what the storms and calm weather mean. It's good to think how much can you go with it before you can say it's too much.....for you don't want to go little, or else what's the point. Such a contrast is very intriguing and philosophical that it can very well make the readers take a moment to think about it if done well. This is not saying that you didn't play with it enough, but you could ask yourself: "can I play with it more"? "can I go deeper?" Your call, as always, but overall, I much enjoyed this. Very well done! The ending is killer!

("affected"....not "effected")
