Deadlines

Deadlines

A Poem by Deepika

Though it sounds as lethal as a sharp knife,

It is as powerful to keep me full of life

Gives me an illusion of running an Olympic race,

Got no thrill in increasing the initial pace,

So I make procrastination part of my game,

Not paying heed to the clock’s timely hum

It’s just like chilling my back for days,

And at once sit on the fire to reduce the freeze,

Sob at the end ‘cause of the burning blaze,

Try hard to find some refuge, unable to face

Suffocation & sleeplessness become new symptoms,

Time enjoys her days, making me her victim

Complaining becomes my current ritual,

Peace turns out into a concept that’s virtual

Like an imaginary noose that drives the lazy to work,

To please the time, I work round the clock!

I remember a co-student at University had the motto (it may or may not have been her invention - not sure) 'I Love Deadlines - Especially the Whoooshing sound they make as they go flying past' . xD

This poem brought welcome recollections of those days when 2 hours sleep was the norm and driving to a tutors home to hand in assignments was not unheard of (though deeply frowned upon) but like the speaker here, I got the 'best of me' when under pressure, underslept and under the influence (of caffiene).
I so relate to this Deepika - thank you for posting this one xD

you nailed the whole chaos and tenseness of a 'deadline-looming' soul.

thank you friend for your kind review :)
Deadlines are important at work, it keeps you punctual but then, draining yourself in them is risky... one must divide their day for themselves and work..

It is good to have deadlines in life. It compels the person to do certain job in a specific time. And, those always procrastinate their job, have always to repent.

A nice poem, thanks for sending RR of this.
