THE PINK ROSE

THE PINK ROSE

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

passion, nature, alone

"
Alone, in springtime, I cultivate my colorful rose garden
prick my finger on a pink rose stem
a slight smudge of bright red blood
trickles to my palm
a blemish, no distress
resembles a red tattoo

I recall as a wee child
I would shriek at the glimpse of blood
time being I kiss the rose
grateful for its sugary fragrance
which edifies my spirit

Our thoughts and beliefs can change with the passing of time. Your lines Betty reminded me how terrified I was as a child of dragonflies. I would scream for my Dad if I could hear them in my bedroom late at night. A boy in my class wisely showed me how to pick one up in my hands. That was a huge ordeal for me, but once done, my fear of them completely went. Your lines brought that memory back. There is much to learn from nature. Thank you fir sharing these lines and where they took me. Keep safe and well.

we learn to live with the cuts and bruises of life as we grow older...
but we love many things that may cut or bruise us, too.
