A PLAUSIBLE TRUTH

A PLAUSIBLE TRUTH

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

and so it goes....

"

Upon return to my cabin

a faint smile endures on my lips

perhaps it was the hand squeeze from the gentleman

or a bit of inner delight to reunite with

my soldier before long

I have two garments left

all the rest are packed in my trunk

for debarkation in the morning

I despise my aspect at this moment

as I peek in the mirror

my apparel looms a bit too firm

I recognize my eating habits on the ship

yet I struggle to watch my waistline

I muse back to my days before the sailing

and peruse my letters and telegrams

from my soldier

Oh, how I miss him

I must resolve the last time

we were intimate

Oh my, three months

maybe……

I shall find my calendar

Before I gasp aloud

I blanket my lips

then I let loose a shriek

In my view I shall not deny

that I am possibly with child

tis not the affair with the gentleman

much too early

my heart flutters like a butterfly

I must sit down on my bed

and reflect on this plausible truth

a challenge to accept

if I disclose this to my soldier

this may intensify his love for me

no one to comfort me straight off

alone once more

Intense romanticism well written and convincing. A dilemma to be resolved. Pregnancies are often not good ways to convince men about commitment.

An intense story; juicy details and conclusions. Having an affair, nothing to spare in love. I enjoyed the story and the surprise at the end.
