A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

Atmosphere of doubt

"

The night is black and the moon hides behind storm clouds

about to burst with pellets of rain

stars are somewhere in the cosmos

distant mountains blur as shadows

an atmosphere of doubt and suspicion penetrate inside

He begs for an answer to his question

she dismisses him, inquires why?

a ghostly quiet endures

he pleads anew

she refuses

“You betray me to ask for a month of intimacy

With your secretary”

more reticence

The telephone rings four times

she senses to vacate

and notes that he speaks in whispers

so as not to reveal conversation

yet she pries on him stalks back and forth

in desperate attempt to heed

she weeps in silence

From that moment onward

little connection befalls

intimacy bluntly halts

a veil of frost shrouds them

she launches into drink

he departs on a trip

and for discernible motives

she presumes he may never return

She should spend that month cutting the gussets from his trousers and underpants while adding colouring to his soap that will turn him ash grey and make him look like a walking corpse.
She should probably at least double his life insurance and start trapping bears in pits while keeping them just hungry enough to attack, while covering said traps in leaves and twigs.
Oh, sorry Betty. I thought you were asking for legal advice! 😃
Over here at least and I think it might even catch on there too, is a thing called insanity silence. All you need to do is not react in any way to anything he says or does, while slowly and deliberately sharpening knives on stone.
If the sound doesn't drive him crazy, the silence will, so I've been told.
It's never happened to me, promise - because I'm a good boy, but he sounds like a wrong 'un and should be tortured to insanity for his impudence!
Failing that, just tell the cops he was cleaning his gun when it went off, shooting a new centre parting in his hair! 😃

A powerful piece of poetry, Betty. I'm not one to make any assumptions on what inspired this poem. But its heartbreak is undeniable in its angst. Art that moves the heart deserves to be heard.. CLE

Betty,
It is the cruelest of frosts, the one that divides the heart from all else it might need... I have been there, still am when I stop to think, but have been blessed when overridden by new love...

She and he seem to have relationship issues or commitment issues or something. I read that the "intimacy" abruptly halted but one has to wonder how much true intimacy a relationship can contain without trust and mutual respect. I suppose sex could pass for "intimacy" but to me the word means much more...like an old friend you're not afraid to speak your mind around and you feel comfortable telling them anything. That's real intimacy to me. But loyalty is a hard thing to find in people of questionable character.
