The laws of the youngA Poem by BighornMy third poemThe young and the old, our classic divide The old will soon die Not us, maybe The old are wise Lived long lives much different from mine The younger you are, the blinder your eyes Darkness is water and lightness is sky The goal to survive? We have power beyond our elders and they beyond us Sound like a paradox? Trust between generations has eroded to dust You must adjust Medicine has The old have More strength smarter heads Than any old person before 2010 Yet they'll still soon be dead You you and you you you you and you Choose to hate Or instead contemplate How to shape the future The old will follow our lead, as we are the young and the free When the farmer selectively breeds a flock of sheep For wool and meat How do they know which to keep? Which ones put to sleep? Those who leave will be a nice treat for the wolves Those who bite will get pulled Those who stay put and don't struggle Digging their grave with a shovel Fearing the shadow Have lost the battle Those who run off to the hills, the mountainous chill, freedom from bills, become likely to kill Likely find thrill in the chase like a pill Likely have will Exerting force enough still To grow horns So which will we be? The sheep in the cage? Begging for change? Or do we look up, change the paradigm And climb
