The Dark

The Dark

A Poem by H. E. Schreiter

Shadows

Are its offspring

Helping it grow strong

Fear

Is its best weapon

Causing people to shiver and shake

Unknown

Are its contents

Unknown

Is what is hiding within

Night

Is its nickname

Day

Its enemy

Evil

Its way of penetrating our inner soul

Anything scary

Finds its home here

It spreads like wildfire

Consuming

Everything in its path

Changing it

For the worse

Spreading fear everywhere

It plagues our dreams with nightmares

We fear what it holds

It is usually on the losing end

But don’t underestimate it

It can take hold on you

Infecting you from the inside out

Consuming your light

And turning it into itself

It is rising against what is good

Fighting against what is right

Destroying what is light

It is the ultimate enemy.
