The Great Betrayer Within

The Great Betrayer Within

A Poem by Lovecraft
"

The idea of a Great Betrayer of Humanity.

"
An ornate knife in the spine I received,
Spilling blood and dust, here and there,
While The Great Betrayer felt relieved,
I just started to die, feeling his stare.

The Great Betrayer portrayed himself as a man,
Yet in the end it was what he once had desired,
For in all his envy, he only needed one stand,
One single moment to know what had transpired,
Below.

The Great Betrayer loathed and loved Humanity,
Love and Lust, Joy and Greed, Vanity and Wrath,
His was a form of life filled with only Tragedy,
Eventually viewing all life treading the same path.

The Great Betrayer Within will never Fall,
For he inhabits us all.

A metaphor on life, you could say. Would appreciate some feedback on this one.

The dichotomy of Man - his compassion and his avarice. We are subconsciously conditioned to be greedy and jealous, for that's evolution at work. The intrinsic human qualities such as love and charity are just that; human. Artificial. We attempt to transcend evolution and stay above it in order to, as has been noted countless times before, "separate us from the animals". We cannot escape what we are and where we came from, though. At the end of the day, homo sapiens still fall into one of the five kingdoms of life - the animal kingdom.

Thank you. It's mostly an analogy based on my personal beliefs and feelings.
I do not see life this way, so I will just say you have put deep thought into this. I would like to read something more up beat from you so I can see how I like a different style from you. Valentine

Thanks. I kind of love the last verse, but I wanted the very last line to be a bit longer.
