dismayed
when i
hear people
bragging
about having
been to
a beautiful
place

as if
they had
become
more beautiful
because of
it

for if
such transference
were possible
it would
go in
the opposite
direction

not that
they had
become
more beautiful
for having
gone to
the place

but that
the place
had become
uglier while
they were
there
