Dear Self,

Dear Self,

A Poem by Hopefull

Dear Self,

I know you haven't listened to me in a while. I know you wont like what i have to say. But you need to listen.

Its time. Its time to give up on chasing a fantasy. You have to move on. You aren't doing yourself any favors anymore. If she wanted to talk to you or see you she would have by now.

Its fine that you thought you found your person. But in the end you weren't hers, And thats ok too.

There will be another person for you. One that when you feel like time is stopping, they will share that emotion instead of it just being a moment in time.

If she has a change of heart and wants to talk to you again worry about it when it happens. Stop trying to convince her. You would rather her do it on her own anyway.

Next time dont fall so hard so fast. And dont be scared to be yourself.

,Hopelessly

A therapist once suggested I write such a letter to myself. I laughed (terrified inside) and dismissed the idea immediately. I have since found the wisdom in her advice, and your last line shows what happens when we make ourselves vulnerable and examine the truth. Maybe it's not others running away, but us pushing them away, maybe our haste to connect, hang on tight, or our fear of showing too much of ourselves is the problem. That's what I've taken from this poem. It's an original and effective form for what the speaker says here.

A sensible letter. It sounds easy though in black and white when you weigh everything up and balance it out. It all seems so logical. Try telling your emotions that though. They have a habit of lagging well behind.ike what you have done here.
