Healing Lands

Healing Lands

A Poem by Kevin Mundy
"

A poem I wrote about my journey of grief after the loss of my father when I was 24 and how I sought refuge in the landscape of our home that helped me to make my peace.

"
Thus came the dawn when the wail of the widow did greet me
His courage and spirit lain silent and stricken
Now was my time to walk the truth that had long awaited me
Embrace it I did, with the sweetest of kisses

The crowd gathered round, with love and fair offerings
And I cast my eyes on it all in such disbelief
The truth of my world settled unto the earth
The old man's death, this young man's grief

As I stood amongst a whisper it did come caress me
A faint sound of his past my senses begun
I lifted my face and I saw that above me
A thousand jeweled Starlings darkened the sun

I took like a Leveller to seek him anew
Ebbing and flowing to the lay of our land
Emersed all around by England's beauty
My Pain succumbed with the passage of Times healing hand

And there my aching soul sort peace from his passing
And on the dry earth my tears etched silver streams
A solace to my hurts this 'Jerusalem' we built, Enchanting me forever in Somerset dreams.
