A Mask of Deceit

A Mask of Deceit

A Story by Soraya Austen
"

Life sucks, yet be thankful to be in the present.

"
She stood in the mirror, and looked to see,
If perhaps the depression and grief still be.
She sighed and began to cry her tears.
If only someone would come and calm her fears.
He appeared out of nowhere and came to her,
With a mask that appeared as a blur.
He said to paint it however she dreamed.
But, to make sure, to her, it beamed.
Because for her it would start to reveal,
The true problems behind her eyes of teal.
She agreed to his terms, and the painting began.
With crimson red lips, dark blue eyes, and skin colored tan,
She put the mask on and to her dismay,
She found that her life was on replay.
The sins she committed, oh so long ago,
Came to the surface, not wrapped in a bow.
The lies she told, the drinking she did,
Came as a lion approaches a kid.
With tears in her eyes, she begged for it to be taken
He smiled his smile whilst she was shaken.
No, you agreed to wear the mask of deceit,
This will be a long ride so take a seat.
He laughed his cynical laugh of glee.
She finally found it hard to see.
As her life started to come to the present,
She realized her life was not at all pleasant.
She pleaded to get the mask off,
But all he did was scoff.
Now she wears a mask of deceit on her face.
She is crying, again, in her usual place.
Only to see that this is what she is to be.
A broken girl with nothing left to see.
Her past caught up with a sinister smile.
To show her to appreciate her old trial.
