A Heart In Calamity

A Heart In Calamity

A Poem by Soraya Austen

A heart in calamity is the saddest of all,
Yet a heart in bliss is the worse of them all.

Distress is known to bring upon woe,
But someone experiencing delight?
Falls harder then them all.
The heart beats on in each scenario,
Yet there is one that barely functions.
The saddened heart slows its beat while grieved.
The joyful heart is irrationally erratic.
It speeds significantly when it has fallen in love,
When pushed and battered it knows its due,
To slow itself back down while the darkness consumes.
Feeling less and less motivated to do,
Over time turning icy cold and midnight blue.

The broken heart cannot be revived.
It beats on and on but only to survive.
Love has walked away and so has the will to beat to a tune.
The life that experienced the loss of joy, has grief on their side.
The one who could make a heart race has left to go on another chase.

The heart in calamity is sad its true,
But the heart that felt love and was abandoned,
Is now broken and bruised all black and blue.
