Karma

A Poem by Darren Brown
"

There is a cruel man who causes much pain and suffering in the life of a woman I love. This is for him, with the story of Jonah and the whale as a metaphor.

"
So desperate to reach the shores of Tarshish,
a brief reprieve from that which follows you
like a contorted shadow in an alleyway
and jerks you awake when you try to sleep.

But it isn't God my friend,
although it's infinitely more damning;
guilt will devour you like a black hole
and leave you feeling just as empty,
and when it spits you out
there will be no kikayon tree.

It's as inevitable as the sunrise,
as inescapable as Alcatraz.
The road to hell is paved with good intentions,
and you're one brick away.

What strong feelings! This piece has its words speaking with conviction --- good for the message it tries to imply. Thank you for sharing the poem to us!

About
I use poetry as a means to come to a deeper understanding of myself, and the world that I'm a part of. So most of my work is a combination of introspective and extrospective, figuring out how I relate.. more..
